We, The People : Global Health Challenges discussed at the World health Summit, Berlin
Saturday 14 October, 2023
The political and financial challenges arising from recent global events – from inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine – do not make the current projects about the global health architecture any easier. With the current status quo, the goals anchored in the development agenda to overcome global health challenges by 2030 will not be achieved. We must intensify our commitment and involve all actors, especially civil society in the North and the South.
A pivotal opportunity to achieve this is the World Health Summit (WHS) in Berlin. We, as Friends of the Global Fund Europe, want to seize the moment by strengthening the voices of relevant communities that we often do not hear enough. In the run-up to the Summit, we would like to facilitate networking, discussion, and visibility in a prep-conference by bringing civil society and parliamentary voices from Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and other regions into the debate.
In addition to contributions from our exciting speakers, we will discuss these questions in the form of a bar camp. In this participant-driven format, attendees themselves select and deliver sessions. In a total of 6 sessions we will have the opportunity to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences on a variety of topics. We want to discuss the contributions we can each make to address global health challenges and then carry these ideas to the WHS. Overall, we can thus strengthen global health democracy and anchor health as a human right – not as a privilege. The time until 2030 is running out.
