Join Friends of the Global Fund Europe at the COP21
Tuesday 1st Décembre 2015, 11:15 – 14:15
Area Générations climat, Room 8
COP 21 – Paris, le Bourget
The fight against malaria, first parasitic scourge in the world, is one of the main objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at the recent United Nation General Assembly. After 15 years of unprecedented international mobilization, the targets set for the fight against malaria for the end of 2015 may be achieved on time, and the epidemics could be controlled by 2030 as suggested by the SGDs.
However, according to several surveys, it is now possible to show an impact of climate and environmental changes on the development trend and geographic distribution of the epidemics, along with potential effects of anthropogenic activities likely to cause greenhouse gas emissions such as deforestation for instance, or migratory movements that can be induced by such climate changes.
Friends of the Global Fund Europe organize on December 1st, 2015, at the the Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP21), at Paris-Le Bourget, an event entitled “What is the impact of climate and environment changes on vector-borne diseases? The Case of malaria” (see program detailed below), in order to discuss about the potential impact of such changes on populations’ health, particularly the most vulnerable ones, in order to better adapt the international community’s strategy with respect to epidemics control as well as resources needed.
