As the final event of the 8th Global Fund replenishment campaign approaches, global leaders face a defining choice: to reaffirm their commitment to helping partner countries advance toward greater self-reliance, or risk reversing two decades of hard-won progress in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

The report made by Friends of the Global Fund Europe, Friends of the Global Fund Japan and Friends of the Global Fight (US) underscores the remarkable impact of collective action. In countries where the Global Fund invests, the annual number of new infections from the three diseases has fallen by 42% since the early 2000s. Over the past twenty years, these efforts have saved 70 million lives and increased the universal health coverage index from 45% to 68%.

This progress demonstrates that investing in the Global Fund is not only an investment in disease response, but also in global health security, stability, and prosperity. By strengthening prevention, detection, and response capacities in low- and middle-income countries, the Global Fund helps protect communities worldwide against existing and emerging infectious threats.

The report highlights the Global Fund’s proven ability to shape markets, expand equitable access, and foster long-term sustainability. Working in partnership with governments, civil society, the private sector, and international organizations, the Global Fund continues to reduce prices, strengthen quality assurance, and incentivize innovation, with a focus on meeting the specific needs of the most vulnerable, including children, women, and girls.

Over the past decade, 34 disease programs across 24 countries have transitioned from Global Fund support, while another 12 programs in 8 countries are close to achieving full self-sufficiency. These milestones illustrate the steady progress toward stronger, more efficient, and more self-reliant health systems.

As countries advance on this path, the Global Fund remains a responsible, flexible, and agile partner, committed to ensuring that transitions are sustainable and that no community is left behind. With robust replenishment and sustained global solidarity, the world can continue building on this momentum, protecting lives today and securing a healthier, more resilient future for all.
