World Malaria Day, 25 April 2025

In 2023, 263 million cases of malaria were reported, and 597 000 people died from it, primarily in Africa.

Numerous humanitarian, climatic, political and financial obstacles are impeding progress toward the SDG target of malaria elimination by 2030.

Yet, tools do exist, and innovation gives us renewed hope of one day achieving a world without malaria. It is essential to ensure universal and equitable access to malaria control and health services and tools.

The Global Fund has calculated a USD 18 billion need to save an additional 23 million lives and cut the combined mortality rate from HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by 64%.

The European Union and European countries must reinvigorate their global health leadership through the Global Fund by bolstering both political commitment and financial contributions.
